SPACE DJZ ON PATROL! Soma/UK/CD-DLP Ben Long and Jamie Bissmire have been around long enough to know that you can get away with a lot in electronic music these days, but you can’t just throw together a bunch of banging techno tracks and call it a proper album. Yes, there are a bunch of banging techno tracks on their "On Patrol!" album as Space DJz (and techno disc jocks will be happy with their choices, especially the first single, "Solaris"), however, there’s also much more. Take album opener "Nice Vibes" and its breezy perc meets bass stabs and surfing analog lines. Lost ya? Well, simply put, it has the funk, and it's no surprise considering Bissmire's tutelage in groundbreakers Bandulu (the electronic music artists who weren't afraid to mix dub and techno). A couple of other more experimental downtempo tracks are thrown in to round out the album. So, something for those at home, and plenty of ammunition for the DJ set to do dancefloor devastation. --Andrew Duke Back to album reviews index
