Blueprint 7/98 [BPLP1/BPCD1] Ideal
Just over two years after kicking off the Blueprint imprint, label boss James Ruskin finally gets around to putting together his debut album. Geez, James, it's about time. Ruskin delivers ten solid tracks with a warmth that seems to be lacking in so much of today's minimal material. Sure, banging abrasiveness works in the mix, but not so well in the front room on CD. With this in mind, Ruskin's 6 rhythmic shufflers (a pleasing , floor-ready variety in themselves) are buffered with 4 more atmospheric pieces that leave the kick behind. Electronic music needs more albums like this if it is to survive beyond the DJ's crate. --Andrew Duke
